Bill Austin
Bill Austin, who holds a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) from Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology, founded Bill Austin & Associates, Inc. (BAA) in January 1996, specializing in systems engineering and information assimilation for product development companies. His vision for BAA has been shaped by four decades of experience across the commercial and defense industries.
His technical career includes 7 years as a project manager with the U.S. Navy on the Trident Missile Fire Control System and 14 years leading engineering and management in commercial heavy equipment product development, where he pioneered control systems, information architectures, diagnostics, and support systems for mobile electronics. These efforts resulted in industry firsts, including over-the-air software delivery systems for regulated products and one of the first industrialized portable computers.
As a dedicated standards expert, Austin is a life member of SAE, where he helped develop the first communication standards for mobile heavy equipment. He has published technical papers on system development for heavy-duty vehicles and served for ten years as a conference chairman and session organizer for SAE events focused on systems engineering. He is a Senior Member of IEEE and was the founding president of the INCOSE Crossroads of America chapter.
Since founding BAA, Austin has spent three decades "untying the knots" using MBSE requirements engineering for some of the world’s most complex organizations. While many engineering firms get lost in the volume of data, Bill leads with curiosity, believing strategic success comes from rethinking the game and asking the diagnostic questions others miss. Under his leadership, BAA has been recognized as a 3x Inc. 5000 Fastest-Growing Company by focusing on the experience and know-how that drives real-world outcomes. This deep experience shaped BAA’s core framework: the formalized Discover requirement process, a structured diagnostic engagement that provides clarity to complex problems by quickly and effectively identifying technical solutions.
Leveraging an extensive technical background and experience with four previous startups, Austin has built BAA on a solid foundation of business partnerships and a keen eye for talent. Today, BAA is uniquely positioned to maintain its commercial success while collaborating with government contractors to navigate the rapidly evolving defense landscape in the Midwest.
