BAA is seeking a dynamic Embedded Software Engineer who has experience with internal combustion engine control systems. The role requires an engineer who can bring creative ideas and mathematically based solutions to complex problems associated with engine controls, signal processing and on-board diagnostics (OBD). The ideal candidate would work using model-based design methodology to design embedded software. Extensive data analysis and simulation is required to explore solutions prior to on-engine testing and then vehicle testing. Our expectation is to have a candidate with honesty, consistency, and a passion for learning and continuous improvement. The ideal candidate will have exceptional interpersonal skills and will collaborate well within a team environment.
Job Requirements
Key Responsibilities
Developing and designing new feature and function algorithms to control engines using Matlab and Simulink. This specifically includes the diagnostics, engine controls, etc.
Development of model-based controls, diagnostics and analyzing the behavior of the software design using simulation
Performing and supporting bench, rig, and local vehicle testing
Supporting and investigating problem reports and change requests
Working closely with our customers on implementation of the algorithms in the Engine Control Module architecture
Desired Skills
Ability to understand and apply models and simulation of control algorithms including experience with Matlab and Simulink
Training in the application of control laws and theory as applied to embedded real time control systems including open and closed controls, PID controllers, etc.
Knowledge of internal combustion engine operation and combustion, performance, and emissions (CPE) is a plus. Especially useful would-be knowledge of turbochargers, wastegates and exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) systems and controls
Proficient in the use of MS Excel (required), MS Office, MS Word, PowerPoint, etc.
Ability to develop, implement, follow, maintain, and improve processes, practices, and standards such as FMEA, DVP&R, software release processes, etc.
Experience with Functional Safety, ISO 26262 and Autosar is not required but would be a significant advantage
Education Requirements
Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Math, Physics, or equivalent
3-5 years of experience in embedded software and engine controls
Trained in data analysis techniques and basic statistics for process control
